Album overview:
"Metamorphosis", Hilary's blockbuster debut musical release was a huge hit. The lead single to the album was the track "So Yesterday", although the album also featured the single "Why Not" from Hil's movie "The Lizzie McGuire Movie", which featured slightly different lyrics on the album version. "So Yesterday" was however Hilary's first international release, as "Why Not" was only released in North America and Australia. The single, after it's summer release in the US and Australia, was released in the UK and other European regions the following fall. The single peaked at #8 in the UK charts and paved the way for a European release of "Metamorphosis". The album featured new artwork and a fresh logo. European editions also included the track "The Girl Can Rock", which was previously available on initial copies sold at Target stores in the USA (Australia and Asian releases featured a track title "A Day In The Sun" as a bonus track). The second single taken from the album was the fan favourite "Come Clean", there was however a long gap between the release of "So Yesterday" and itself, to fill the gap in some regions a new "live" video for "So Yesterday" was released, and in Australia, "So Yesterday" was re-released including some of the new UK remixes. The video for "Come Clean" premiered in January 2004 and was soon released in Australia. Originally, there were plans to release the album version of "Why Not" throughout Europe, these plans went as far as to re-editing the original music video to feature the new album version of the track. Some early radio promo's were sent out featuring a picture from a photoshoot from "The Lizzie McGuire Movie" on the cover. The single was later ditched in favour of releasing "Come Clean", "Why Not" was included as the b-side on the 2-track single, however. In Australia an exclusive single "Little Voice" was released. The track featured a live video shot during Hil's American "Metamorphosis" tour. Before the release of "Metamorphosis" an early version of the track was played on the radio, this version was obviously a demo at the time, but leaves the question still, was it planned to be the follow-up to "So Yesterday" instead of "Come Clean"? After "Come Clean" did well in the US, the track unfortunately barely made top 20 in the UK, it was announced that the next single would be "Where Did I Go Right?" or "Anywhere But Here", further plans never materialised and Hilary and Hollywood records seemingly ditched the album, in favour of Hil releasing her duet "Our Lips Are Sealed" in promotion of her upcoming film "A Cinderella Story". Although the album was "done" in the USA, in Australia the album was re-released featuring a new slipcase and a bonus DVD featuring two music videos and two performances from Hilary's WB television special. The album would also receive various Asian re-issues.
